Subject: Need flute advice

Last winter I was given a Native American flute, which I have learned to play a little. I've seen flutes with cords and beads on them and would like to decorate my flute. It's made of Western Red Cedar, and the block is a fox. My birthstone is the garnet so I thought about stringing some garnet on a rawhide string, and maybe putting a stone on the fox. Let me say up front that I'm white, with an interest in the Indian culture. I don't consider myself a "wannabe" - I know I'm white and always will be. We can't help how we're born :-)
However, I find Native American music so beautiful and restful both to play and listen to. Anyway, I wondered if there are any taboos on what I may or may not use to decorate my flute?
