Subject: State of Indian Nations

So sad that the "State of Indian Nations" by Tex Hall, President of
the National Congress of American Indians was printed on the ninth
page of The Arizona Republic, Friday, February 4, 2005. The "State
of Indian Nations" merits front page attention.
After each new presidential election of America Tribes get busy
educating or re-educating the Executive and Legislative Branch of
the Federal Government and the appropriate committees of Congress.
Over decades tribes have been vigilant watching who gets appointed
to the President's Cabinet. With this watch Indian Nations either
prepare for on-going battles or it gets along with the President's
appointees.
From the very first election of this Nation's Presidents to its
current President Tex Hall's "State of Indian Nations" could have
well been stated decades ago for the social and economic conditions
continue to exist.
We in Indian Nations see American jobs going overseas yet right here
among Indian Nations are HUBZones, Enterprise Zones, Enterprise
Communities, Tribes with innovative economic development authorities
or tribal economic entities, Tribes with designated lands for
commercial or industrial development, and Tribes with Tribal Uniform
Commercial Codes. All this needs to be noted and businesses and
corporations need to know about the tax incentives and benefits
working with Indian Nations.
With cities and towns surrounding Indian Nations settings it would
be highly beneficial to see how both worlds can work together.
Across Indian Nations there are some success stories and their
economic growth needs to be noted.
Other substantial tribal wealth development needs consideration by
the tribes for example alternative energy opportunities which can
produce quantum economic growth and virtually put the Tribes right
in the center of commerce by addressing energy crises like that of
California and other states. Expertise is readily available to make
tribes energy independent and with that it can sell surplus energy
to neighboring communities. More importantly, finally resolve all
of Indian Nations' social and economic conditions.
