Again an obvious Christian orientated question, so I will answer this with a Christian answer (which is easy because I am a Christian). As taught to us by the bible, which most all christians hold dear, Christ came to redeem us or rather to die on the Cross for the sins of the world. This is a catch all phrase. He may have had many purposes but this was the grand finale. In the Christian faith Christ's death is what brought our salvation. So to make this short, Christ came to bring our Salvation by taking our sins upon himself and dieing.
