Now that the Miss Universe preliminaries have concluded and seeing that everyone is posting their top 15's, I would like to share my little review. From what I thought was going to be a competitive year, turned out to be a little less than expected-Europe being the biggest disappointment. But with that said, many girls impressed me and others were just boring. Watching the prelims may not have been necessary, but at least I was able to distinguish who was over-confident, subtle but effective, or just "Vanilla"!
Here is my final 15, based on the criteria of what has been presented to me:
USA-Crystle is definitely a frontrunner for the crown. No matter how pageant patty she looked in her evening gown, she drew everyone's attention to her. She obviously wants to bring the USA a victory, and she is more than capable of doing so. She's mature, exotic and I expect to see her place no lower than 2nd runner up.
MEXICO-Waaaay better than last year's rep, Elisa is a stunner that also wants to give Mexico their 2nd title. Her body however, seems to look disproportionate in certain angle, but no one can deny her facial beauty. Overall, one of the strongest competitors.
VENEZUELA-Dayana would be the perfect Miss Universe, in my opinion. She's spunky, confident and very beautiful. She seems to be free-spirited and her presentations up to this point have been nothing less than superb, even despite her head throwing antics. Some may classify her as over dramatic, but if Zuleyka Rivera can win that way, so can Dayana!
COLOMBIA-She is my pick for the most natural, fresh and beautiful looking delegate. She's stunning. I saw a video of her visiting the sick children in Vietnam, and she was so comforting to watch, which is a huge testament to how sweet natured this girl really is. She has an amazing body, and although her gown was a little weird to me, a semifinals spot should be secured for her.
AUSTRALIA-Wow! Another flawless presentation, Laura is another girl to look out for. She's been so consistent and has a body to die for. I like her, because she too, is another girl that hasn't been tainted by plastic surgery (At least I think so), but she's fresh and overall absolutely gorgeous!
CANADA-Surprise, surprise! My home girl oozes sex appeal. Samantha has proven to be very consistent and she has amazing stage presence. I really didn't like her at first, but I think it will be hard to ignore her. She wore the same gown from when she won Miss Universe Canada and it still looks amazing on her. I like her because she's different, and although she has had a lot of work done, I think she is pretty in a unique way.
SPAIN-The best bet from Europe, in my opinion. If Claudia were to win Miss Universe, she would appeal to both South America and Europe. She is very beautiful, has a great body and has always looked good. Her presentation was excellent. She knows how to work it!
KOREA-I love this girl. Watching her bikini presentation at the queen of Vinpearl totally floored me. She was so much fun on stage, and I truly have a soft spot for her. Her gown looked huge but it worked. And despite the food poisoning incident, she was able to deliver a great presentation show. I think that she is going to make it, and Japan, unfortunately won't make the cut.
BELGIUM-The only other girl to impress me from Europe, Alizee is a classic, sexy blond bombshell. I loved her gown, she has an amazing body-there really nothing else I could ask for. The only critique I have is I wish her hair was done differently for her evening gown. It just looked a little too sloppy. Otherwise, I think she'll make it.
ANGOLA-What can I say? I think Lesly is the most beautiful girl from Africa. She's exotic and has such gorgeous chocolate skin. I'm quite surprised that she isn't a favorite, but in my books, she's top notch. I loved both her swimsuit and evening gown presentations-I hope that she makes it!
PANAMA-Carolina is a tough competitor. She is one of the most beautiful faces in this year's edition, and has amazing stage presence. Her evening gown presentation stood out to me, and it was not so much the gown but the way she carried herself. And she did that impeccably. Top 15 entrance for sure!
INDIA-I hate her gown. I hope she changes it, but what initially caught my eye about Simran was her close up interview. In terms of her beauty, she is gorgeous, and also a consistent player. She had the ability to place in all of the mini competitions, so I don't think a semi finalist position is far fetched. Honestly though, the gown has got to GO!
SOUTH AFRICA-Miss Tansey has got the moves. She is considered to be the best bet from Africa, and she definitely is a contender. I agree that she's beautiful, but I would still place Angola higher. Her gown was nice, but I think her body isn't as toned as some of the other girls. But her strength would be her overall confidence and runway skills, add her personality and you have a combination for a semifinalist position.
PHILIPPINES-This girl exudes a very sweet aura. I really didn't notice her much until the prelim swimsuit competition. She really surprised me! From her hair, makeup, and the way she carried herself-great presentation. Her gown was a little bland to me, but she was elegant, poised and very classy. She could upset a contender if you ask me. Another one of my soft spots.
PUERTO RICO-I miss the old Ingrid. They really tainted her face, and her makeup has looked horrible in some photos. I do believe that she will make the semis, and will represent Puerto Rico very well. Her preliminary presentation however, was absolutely outstanding. My only question is why mess with something that already is beautiful? I don't think a nose job would have bettered her chances in the competition. Regardless, Ingrid is still one of my contenders, because I know she has that inner beauty that she carried with her at Miss World, and overall she has proven to be a consistent competitor as well.
There you have it!!! My final 15-It was hard to choose, but I truly wish all the girls good luck.

- Very good review. I love it. I totally agree with your observations with Miss USA, Canada, Spain, Philippines and Colombia. You nailed it girl! (NT) -- cynthia, Friday, July 11, 01:13:50am
I enjoy reading your analysis, one of the most unbiased and smart review I've read so far. I agree with most of your points except for Korea. But I think she will probably make the cut because of Ines, Japan's national director. I will replace her with Norway who I think deserves a spot in the top 10 at least. And I absolutely agree with your point on Angola. So happy you mentioned her cus for me, she's fantastic and so overlooked. (NT) -- eda, Friday, July 11, 06:51:32am
