I hated her dress. Mirrors? OMG, she reminded me so much of Gwen Stefano the singer. I thought there was much prettier that her.

Don't like the hideous Mirror Dress. And Russia reminds me of a 1970's Baribe doll. She had the same look when Russia won a few years ago, and then gave her title to the first runner up, can't remember her name. She is beautiful but very 70ish.LOL Love Mexico's dress and my favorite so far.

Do the girls at MUO get feedback from "their people" or are they so isolated and/or busy that they're virtually left to their own devices at this point? Surely their "teams" are reading the same posts we are and able to assess the situation and the competition, and make what they think will be winning adjustments. Whether the girls take the advice or not, I guess, would be another question.

Is anyone telling Crystle to wear her hair down and sass it up just a wee bit more on stage (she looked ahMAYzing - happy & gorgeous - in that green beaded intro dress)?

Or that twirling your gown more than once doesn't make you the next Riyo, it makes you look desperate and over the top, like a whirling dervish at a rave party, high on something and just spinning to the music?

Or to lose the pink road kill purse, or to change their deal-breaker gown, or, I don't know, to maybe SMILE once or twice? Is anyone telling Venezuela to tone it down so the judges can see her beauty instead of wondering whether she's drunk or just has palsy?

(Sorry, I got a little carried away.)

I know it's big business, and beauty is subjective, but some of these girls - all of whom are stunning in their own right - seem like victims of bad advice. So I repeat, do they get feedback after the prelims - like halftime at the Super Bowl - or are they left to their own devices at this point?

Thx.

I just want to take a moment to say some final words before the pageant commences in 3 hours. I am pleased to see such multiculturalism this year: chocolate beauties from Denmark and USA, a Persian beauty from Canada, an Afghan beauty from Germany, a Russian from Panama, a Asian beauties from Guatemala and Trinidad & Tobago, a Croatian beauty from Australia, and unconventional fair-skinned beauties from the Bahamas and the Cayman Islands.

I've entered a beauty pageant in a foreign country one time in my life and I can understand how homesick the contestants must be right now, especially those who have no national directors staying with them in Vietnam. I hope they stay strong.

Finally, good luck to the ladies, and enjoy the show! Thank you Vietnam.

Subject: Just for people to know, our new Miss Florida USA 2009 is Anastagia Pierre, former FL TUSA 04. She turns 20 in October, is around 5' 91/2" and looks amazing. Beautiful face and I believe the 2nd African American (next to Chloe Cabrera in 87) to be crowned Miss Florida USA. Very poised and articulate. Will do well in Nationals!!!

Since having prelims, Anastagia is the first to win the crown as an at large delegate. She represented Plantation USA. With the right help, she will rock at Miss USA!!

I am so excited to see Miss Teen Massachusetts Caroline Lunny this summer at the 2008 Miss Teen USA Pageant. I had the opportunity to meet her at a Girl Scout Fashion Show in her home town. She was so nice to all the girls. She talked to them about her "cause" Best Buddies. She has inspired some of the girls to research Best buddies and possibly become part of the effort. Do you know if the pageant will be televised?

Subject: The Annual RUTH OCUMAREZ AWARD; Who will 'win' it this year?

Author:
Mark Ward
[Edit]

Date Posted: Thursday, July 10, 02:18:13pm

Very soon we will have not only a new Miss Universe but also -- drumroll! -- the winner of the annual 'Ruth Ocumarez Memorial Trophy' given to the greatest pre-finals favorite who fails to make the semifinalists. It's named in honor of Miss Dominican Republic 2002, Ruth Ocumarez, who amny fans and experts had named as being a shoo-in for the Top 5 and even the crown. Ruth did not make the semifinalists.

'Winners' of the Ruthie Award since 2002 have included:

2003 - Miss Spain, Eva Gonzalez (a huge favorite until she sort-of gave up in the prelims)

2004 - Miss Ukraine, Olexandra Nikolayenko (we were all aghast at that one)...the Miss Venezuela also failed to make the cut but Olexandra was an even greater fave

2005 - Miss Chile, Renata Ruiz (with her horn-rimmed glasses at rehearsals, remember?)

2006 - Miss Venezuela, Jictzad Vina (true, many people bashed her muscular figure but she was still on everyone's lists)

2007 - Miss Greece, Doukisa Nomikou (her omission was almost as shocking as that of Oleksandra in 2004)

So who among the popular favorites may not make the cut this year? I am thinking NORWAY and maybe (though I hope not) PANAMA.

Has anyone heard of a former Miss USA or Universe who after they've turned over the title, the next day they realize that it's all over. That must be harder than the title itself. For the following year, unless you are really booked, or have a job, you are reflecting on where you were this time last year.

I was just wondering to they receive counseling or something. I hear a lot of them say that they are sad that it's over.

OK...forget about all the rumours about face lifts and nose jobs. Did anybody else notice the jugs on Costa Rica? Her gown is more revealing than her bathing suit! Now, are those real or fake?

ANALYSIS OF THE PRELIMINARIES

Oh my God the Miss Universe final night is coming very soon and i am very excited to know the winner of the MU pageant this July 14. Everyone seems to be posting their top fifteen list and i decided to reveal my list too. The Latinas seem to be strong this year while the Asians are making a wonderful fights here. as to the European contenders I didn’t know what happen there. They seem to be overshadowed by the ladies of other continents.

Who do i think stood out in the Long Gown? Venezuela reigns supreme with her fierce and striking poses and turns. The color yellow just matches her bubbly personality. Guam too exuded so much charm and she seems to score high here. then there is another goddess in canary yellow the beautiful and towering Mexico. She has a sexy moves and seems like not overdoing it. Ireland is worth mentioning here. she is so regal in her stylish and beautiful brown gown. She has a lot of sparks and is very confident. I feel like this girl is the strongest in Europe. The daring Canada just impressed me with that daring cut similar to the one worn by Venezuela in 2002. She is just so sexy and hot. Israel as i expected wore that sexy red gown. She doesn’t look great in motion but somehow in a very good side. She should have not tied her hair. It looks messy though. But overall she presented it well. Korea seems to be the Riyo Mori of 2008, stylish and daring. I just love her presentation. She reminds me of Oxana Fedorova and Celina jaietly especially during her final pose during this portion. This girl will be the greatest surprise of the night. Spain looks like a goddess in her gold gown. She exudes so much charm and personality here. i want to include Italy here. Oh my! She sported a simple yet elegant black gown and she carried it gracefully. She earns major points here. the thing on the neck just added a little glamour on her presentation. I like Puerto Rico’s gown it’s divine and she carried it excellently; as expected PR never fails to impress the viewers in this portion. France too looked gorgeous in her gown. It gives me a good lasting effect, beautiful gown for a beautiful Miss France. Colombia seems to be imitating Riyo’s flying effect presentation in the long gown. I think that works on her favour.

This is how I scored them in the long gown (Top Fifteen in Long Gown)

1. Venezuela-9.85
2. Korea-9.73
3. Puerto Rico-9.70
4. France – 9.661.
5. Spain- 9.65
6. Ireland- 9.60
7. USA- 9.60
8. Australia- 9.60
9. Colombia- 9.59
10. Italy- 9.57
11. Mexico- 9.55
12. Trinidad and Tobago- 9.55
13. Canada- 9.51
14. India- 9.50
15. Japan- 9.49

The swimsuit competition happens to be my favourite because this is where we see who’s going to make it to the top position. The highest scorer in this portion usually is the eventual winner. 2000, 2001, 2002, 2007 are the justification for such claim. In 2003-2006 the scores were not shown but all four winners seemed to be the one who got the highest score in this portion. Who stood in this competition? Topping the list is the toned India. She is in excellent form and the walk is just quite enough to show her superb body. Coming in second are Colombia and Panama. Colombia has a great body and has sexy and lively walks. She is simply breathtaking here. She too has a striking poses. Panama seems to appear sexy and vivacious. She is indeed a lady to watch her. She too has an excellent form. Mexico’s walk is sexy and again not overdoing it. You can feel this enchanting aura around her especially the moment she moves her hips. Talking about the waistline? well impeccable. Canada seems to be taking great reviews here. She is not striking facially but she has great body to boot. She seems sure of her moves and she looks hot in this department. We have a beautiful surprise coming from Canada this year. Ireland is again perfect here. She exudes so much confidence and charms in her walks and turns. If the crown goes to Europe i think this girl is the rightful owner of that title. The other European contenders seem to be miles away from the crown. USA is also great here. She has a well toned body and great poses. Kazakhstan too is impeccable here. Her downfall is the long gown. She could have chosen a much sexier and interesting cut and design. She just blew it off. Philippines is commendable in her swimsuit presentation. I think she stands out here. This is her strongest part in the competition. But the gown seems to be outdated. TrinidadandTobago is a mamamia . She is voluptuous and hot. Brazil, Australia and Israel are great too in this portion. I feel like Venezuela overdid her presentation. I notice that she has a long frame (body). I don’t find it great. But overall she is a stunner.

This is how i scored the top fifteen in swimsuit
1. India- 9.71
2. Panama- 9.69
3. Colombia- 9.69
4. USA- 9.66
5. Ireland- 9.64
6. Mexico- 9.62
7. Canada- 9.59
8. Kazakhstan- 9.58
9. Philippines – 9.56
10. Puerto Rico- 9. 50
11. Israel- 9.49
12. Brazil- 9.49
13. Trinidad and Tobago- 9.41
14. Korea- 9.41
15. Russia- 9.37

The 80 contestants were trimmed down to 40 and they were judged based from the preliminary videos both in SS and EG. Then they were cut to top 25 and then top 15. To identify the top fifteen I judged them again on their SS and EG. It’s like having a second look at these ladies.

Here are my top 15 in order for the MU 2008
1. Colombia
2. USA
3. Ireland
4. India
5. Puerto Rico
6. Mexico
7. Korea
8. Venezuela
9. Canada
10. Spain
11. Panama
12. Trinidad and Tobago
13. Australia
14. Israel
15. Brazil

Rounding the top 25 in orderItaly, France, Russia, Philippines, Japan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Belgium, and South Africa

Italy will be a beautiful surprise here. She might be one of the spoilers for the top fifteen. I am totally impressed by her presentations both in the SS and EG. She is the real dark horse in the group. France has an interesting gown but not in great form. I want Malaysia to cut into the top fifteen. She is underrated by the fans. Indonesia looks great in EG and what is interesting is she wore two pieces in the SS portion. That was a great move for Indonesia.

The Ladies who made through the top 40 are the following:Poland, Cayman Islands, Guam, Kosovo, Costa Rica, Peru, Vietnam, Czech Rep, Denmark, Norway, Thailand, Ukraine, Germany and Angola

Norway is the most likely to place in this group. I was disappointed with her gown and received a very low score in this category. Guam is a charmer. She is a dark horse in the list. Kosovo and Vietnam are included in my prediction list submitted to Jayepi merely because the former is a new comer and highly connected to MU and the latter will definitely be rewarded for being the host country.

Now that the Miss Universe preliminaries have concluded and seeing that everyone is posting their top 15's, I would like to share my little review. From what I thought was going to be a competitive year, turned out to be a little less than expected-Europe being the biggest disappointment. But with that said, many girls impressed me and others were just boring. Watching the prelims may not have been necessary, but at least I was able to distinguish who was over-confident, subtle but effective, or just "Vanilla"!

Here is my final 15, based on the criteria of what has been presented to me:

USA-Crystle is definitely a frontrunner for the crown. No matter how pageant patty she looked in her evening gown, she drew everyone's attention to her. She obviously wants to bring the USA a victory, and she is more than capable of doing so. She's mature, exotic and I expect to see her place no lower than 2nd runner up.

MEXICO-Waaaay better than last year's rep, Elisa is a stunner that also wants to give Mexico their 2nd title. Her body however, seems to look disproportionate in certain angle, but no one can deny her facial beauty. Overall, one of the strongest competitors.

VENEZUELA-Dayana would be the perfect Miss Universe, in my opinion. She's spunky, confident and very beautiful. She seems to be free-spirited and her presentations up to this point have been nothing less than superb, even despite her head throwing antics. Some may classify her as over dramatic, but if Zuleyka Rivera can win that way, so can Dayana!

COLOMBIA-She is my pick for the most natural, fresh and beautiful looking delegate. She's stunning. I saw a video of her visiting the sick children in Vietnam, and she was so comforting to watch, which is a huge testament to how sweet natured this girl really is. She has an amazing body, and although her gown was a little weird to me, a semifinals spot should be secured for her.

AUSTRALIA-Wow! Another flawless presentation, Laura is another girl to look out for. She's been so consistent and has a body to die for. I like her, because she too, is another girl that hasn't been tainted by plastic surgery (At least I think so), but she's fresh and overall absolutely gorgeous!

CANADA-Surprise, surprise! My home girl oozes sex appeal. Samantha has proven to be very consistent and she has amazing stage presence. I really didn't like her at first, but I think it will be hard to ignore her. She wore the same gown from when she won Miss Universe Canada and it still looks amazing on her. I like her because she's different, and although she has had a lot of work done, I think she is pretty in a unique way.

SPAIN-The best bet from Europe, in my opinion. If Claudia were to win Miss Universe, she would appeal to both South America and Europe. She is very beautiful, has a great body and has always looked good. Her presentation was excellent. She knows how to work it!

KOREA-I love this girl. Watching her bikini presentation at the queen of Vinpearl totally floored me. She was so much fun on stage, and I truly have a soft spot for her. Her gown looked huge but it worked. And despite the food poisoning incident, she was able to deliver a great presentation show. I think that she is going to make it, and Japan, unfortunately won't make the cut.

BELGIUM-The only other girl to impress me from Europe, Alizee is a classic, sexy blond bombshell. I loved her gown, she has an amazing body-there really nothing else I could ask for. The only critique I have is I wish her hair was done differently for her evening gown. It just looked a little too sloppy. Otherwise, I think she'll make it.

ANGOLA-What can I say? I think Lesly is the most beautiful girl from Africa. She's exotic and has such gorgeous chocolate skin. I'm quite surprised that she isn't a favorite, but in my books, she's top notch. I loved both her swimsuit and evening gown presentations-I hope that she makes it!

PANAMA-Carolina is a tough competitor. She is one of the most beautiful faces in this year's edition, and has amazing stage presence. Her evening gown presentation stood out to me, and it was not so much the gown but the way she carried herself. And she did that impeccably. Top 15 entrance for sure!

INDIA-I hate her gown. I hope she changes it, but what initially caught my eye about Simran was her close up interview. In terms of her beauty, she is gorgeous, and also a consistent player. She had the ability to place in all of the mini competitions, so I don't think a semi finalist position is far fetched. Honestly though, the gown has got to GO!

SOUTH AFRICA-Miss Tansey has got the moves. She is considered to be the best bet from Africa, and she definitely is a contender. I agree that she's beautiful, but I would still place Angola higher. Her gown was nice, but I think her body isn't as toned as some of the other girls. But her strength would be her overall confidence and runway skills, add her personality and you have a combination for a semifinalist position.

PHILIPPINES-This girl exudes a very sweet aura. I really didn't notice her much until the prelim swimsuit competition. She really surprised me! From her hair, makeup, and the way she carried herself-great presentation. Her gown was a little bland to me, but she was elegant, poised and very classy. She could upset a contender if you ask me. Another one of my soft spots.

PUERTO RICO-I miss the old Ingrid. They really tainted her face, and her makeup has looked horrible in some photos. I do believe that she will make the semis, and will represent Puerto Rico very well. Her preliminary presentation however, was absolutely outstanding. My only question is why mess with something that already is beautiful? I don't think a nose job would have bettered her chances in the competition. Regardless, Ingrid is still one of my contenders, because I know she has that inner beauty that she carried with her at Miss World, and overall she has proven to be a consistent competitor as well.

There you have it!!! My final 15-It was hard to choose, but I truly wish all the girls good luck.
