"Hello, this is not the person you were trying to call...
... you've reached The Rejection Hotline!"

What Is The Rejection Hotline?

In a nutshell, the Rejection Hotline is a phone number you can give out if you just don't want to give out your real number. Callers hear our humorous Rejection Hotline recording and are not-so-subtly informed of your non-interest. But it's all in good fun and we hope those on the receiving end can look at it like Curt did:

"So I guess I'm one of the 'rejectees' mentioned in the L.A. Times article, because I had a girl give me the Rejection Hotline number at a bar a few weeks ago. But I'm not writing to complain about it at all. Just the opposite, I'm writing to say THANKS! Not only do I think it's hilarious, but I love that I could go on letting my buddies think I had gotten her number that night and none of them were around to give me $h*t when I made the call a few days later and heard the Rejection Hotline message... [and I] realized I've still got a lot to learn when it comes to knowing if a girl's interested or not. Thanks for the laugh and the reality-check!"
-- Curt, Los Angeles

Why Does The Rejection Hotline Exist?

The dating scene is full of people who can't take a hint or can't take "no" for an answer (and many who apparently can't take showers, can't brush their teeth, or can't seem to go out in social settings without awkwardly embarrassing themselves).

Anyway, the Rejection Hotline exists as a simple alternative to uncomfortable situations and it is a public service to both the rejector and to the rejectee.

The rejector has an easy way to get rid of unwanted suitors, to express a lack of interest in a non-confrontational manner, and to gracefully escape an uncomfortable situation.

The rejectee, on the other hand, is able to hear the bad news in the privacy of his/her own home without being subjected to public embarrassment and/or ridicule from anyone who otherwise might have witnessed a more public rejection. Further, there are no unanswered "what if's," no desperate assumptions of "I must have just mis-dialed," and no ambiguity - all of which are common by-products of the *randomly selected fake numbers which were more common before the advent of the Rejection Hotline.

United States Rejection Hotline numbers and cities* Note: Randomly selected fake numbers also disturb innocent people - like little old ladies, pizza delivery shops, and any household unfortunate enough to have Jenny's 867-5309 as their number. Yep, we'd like to think we're helping them too.

How did the Rejection Hotline start?

We started the original Rejection Hotline in Atlanta in the summer of 2001, as a joke, just for sh*ts and giggles amongst a few friends. We really had no idea how popular it would become, how quickly word would spread, and how many millions of people would soon be hearing the Rejection Hotline recording. We knew we were in over our heads when the number of calls began to exceed the capabilities of our original voicemail system. We couldn't believe we started getting thousands of calls a day! So we eventually upgraded our voicemail system, put up our RejectionHotline.com website, added Rejection Hotline numbers in new cities, and began receiving some great media coverage!

Anyway, that's the short version of our our story. For a longer version, please visit our Press Room. And feel free to contact us with questions, comments, feedback, or just to say hello.
