For all of you who will celebrate/observe samhaain today, all blessings of the sabbat to you all...for those of you doing so at another time (I will be doing so on the cross-quarter date as is my habit..this year on Tuesday Nov 7th...although it is tempting to choose the Saturday night, Nov 4th for the full moon!) all blessings to you all whenever you are observing Samhaain!

Does anyone have the halloween witch piece that we have posted here from year to year on their puter? I will check and see if I have it somewhere to scan...tis so poiniant.

But here is a poem from Raven's Wing (found in the Seasons of the Witch Weekly)

Samhain
death is part of life

"The veil between the worlds now thins,
and Whispered Souls like violins
will speak beyond the tides of time
of secrets foolish and sublime.
And so bid welcome unafraid
to the Ever Living Shade."

Llewellyn's Witches' Datebook has a nice little cat magick spell for protection and good luck in the new year (Samhaain is our celtic new year):

"Hold your cat in your lap, light a white candle, and repeat the charm three times;

This Samhain night I call Diana, Goddess of the Moon,
I cast for protection and good luck with this witchy tune.
My feline friend and i do work this spell as one,
As we will so mote it be, an' let it harm none."

by Ellen Dugan

For those of you who can't light candles, I am sure the spell will work fine without doing so...remember your focus and intent is the main thing. And for those of you who choose to light the candle...for summerland's sake, PULLEEEAASE be careful, especially with your cat!!!

On a lighter note, Spellweever has added his wonderful sense of humor to the whole mix by noting that the actual cross quarter date this year (when the veil between the spirit world of the dead and that of the living is the thinnest and the dead may cross over into our realm) happens to also fall on election day this year for those of us in the USA....which he says is rather redundant, if not fitting!!! Course there are those who might wish that the spiritual "gate" swung both ways so that we might send off a few current polititcians....tsk, tsk...such wicked thoughts Dreemy.

back to the serious side...I am having quite the mixed feelings about this year's rite in that the loss of my dear Dora is still so fresh and acutely felt. Any suggestions from any of you as to how to observe and yet not "lose it" emotionally since the pain is still quite raw...? Oh, and i will have to keep my outdoor observances at her gravesite limited to things that will not attract our neighborhood bear who has not gone to bed for the winter yet do to a mind stretch of weather!!!! Yup, she/he made quite the grand appearance on our deck last week and stood up and placed her paws right on the sliding glass door to the breakfast room!!!!!! (Jerusha and Moondance...are you picturing this????!!!!) I stood in the breakfast room screaming like a real woos. So I can leave Dora catnip, but no food :(

Sending much love and light to you all.
Know that you are in my thoughts and heart continually!
Dreemy
