Glad to have you with us!

Ok, so a little bit about physiology (of course you can do your own research even on-line). When you regularly consume either caffine or sugar and then your body doesn't get it you can experience withdrawal like symptoms such as severe headaches and depression, even the jitters. One book that comes to mind off the top of my head is titled "sugar blues". Anyone who regularly consumes coffee or caffinated sodas will experience headaches if they stop. The symptoms of withdrawal come on pretty fast. One thing you can do is to switch to green tea. Green tea provides caffine, but the body gets a lot of other health benefits as well such as a good supply of antioxidants.Try to brew your own green tea when ever possible (make a big plastic pitcher the night before and then chill overnight. Try to sweeten with honey or splenda or stevia rather than white sugar or chemical sweeters. Drink the tea only in the first half of the day and stop consuming caffine after supper each night.

Your reaction to feeling like you have excess energy when you have a new boyfriend also has a physical cause. When we are very happy (or when we excercise) our body produces endorphins. These circulate throughout our body to give us a natural "high". It causes you to feel really "up". This is why people newly in-love sometimes forget to eat and can seem to stay up all night and not feel tired. The problem is that the feelings don't last (not in that extreme state) and if one has not been eating healthy foods and getting enough rest, they suddenly "crash". This is often the reason why young people fall in and out of love so frequently....they misinterperet the physical feelings of the ups and downs and think that they have then fallen out of love when the endorphins subside or they "crash" emotionally since they were not taking care of themselves and they were just riding the wave of the endorphins.

Big, big, huge thing for any of us to grasp....the feeling of being in love is not love. It's great, it's wonderful, but it comes and goes. Two people who are made for each other, soulmates, best friends, the love of each other's lives, etc. DO NOT ALWAYS FEEL IN-LOVE!! Very very important realization for any of us to come to. All the pieces of the relationship have to be right. You can have those amazing over the moon feelings for someone and they can be all wrong for you. As well as someone can be your one true love and they yours and you both may not FEEL the love every minute of every day. This does not mean you don't still love each other. Love is a lot more about a decision that you both make a commitment to each other than it is about what you feel at any given moment.

So after the initial high and the whirlwind of "up" and "over the moon" feelings wears off you have to live in the day to day of school and work and good things and bad things happening in everyday life. This is why grownups are always saying to wait as long as you can before even adding kissing or anything more into a relationship before you really get to know what someone is like....because those endorphins cloud our judgement and make it hard to think straight. Thus the old saying "love is blind".

So what to do? Ahhh that is the really hard part....because a really good life requires balance. We have to take care of ourselves, do our "havetos" and responsibilities, see to the people in our lives that matter to us and nurture those relationships, have fun/recreation, and try our darndest to keep all those areas in our lives in balance so we don't get off-kilter. And that, that is the real tough thing. Extremes are easy. balance it hard. It is always changing. It isn't something that you get right and then you can check it off your list. It is always in flux, always requiring re-examination and adjustment of our time and energy.

The really cool thing is that you are only 15 and don't have to be all on top of everything and grown up overnight. Have you seen the movie "Everafter" with drew Barrymore? I love the line in that movie when Cinderella walks into the ball and says to herself, "Breathe, just breathe."

So Ace, darlin'...."breathe, just breathe". You are OK. Just take on one thing at a time....start by seeing to getting enough sleep every night and working on your nutrition. (if you want to get those healthy omega fats and don't like fish, avacados, or raw walnuts...you can get fish oil or omega supplements in a capsule form...I take those everyday.)

hug!
Dreemy
