Ok....since the whole chat time sychronization thing is getting most convoluted between everyone's availability and time zones and such, here is what I propose for the interim:
If you intend to be available to chat and will be signed in to MSN IM (instant messenger) then leave a post here as to the time, time zone and date that you will be available. last night I ended up on MSN IM with Jerusha and Aurora Sky (you old-timers would remember her) and we chatted for a nice bit. It was unplanned. Sapphire, you were signed in but we couldn't roust you! Anyways, let's do this for a bit and see if any patterns develop for mutual availability. Of course if it is a last minute thing, that is fine, but even better if you know ahead of time that you will be on and available to post in advance and give peeps a chance to see your post and connect with you.
Let me start the ball rolling by saying I will be on-line and will sign in to msn IM early afternoon tomorrow. I am guessing right now that it will be between 1:30 and 2:30 PM EST. But I will post again tomorrow around 12 or 12:30 to be more specific. I may even be able to repeat this on Friday if i don't have to take Dora (17 yr old cat) to the vet.
Ok, so again, leave posts as to if and when you will be on-line and let's just keep it an open thing for the time being till we see how it flows. The thing is that many of us will have schedule changes yet again in may or June and then everything would have had to re-adjust anyway!
Next on my thoughts is Scarletyoureyes arrival and her ponderings of just what wicca is or isn't and I know there is a lot of variety in people's paths, practices, and beliefs all under the heading of "wicca". So I thought it might be of benefit to her as well as to others to spark a discussion and sharing along this avenue. So feel free all you wicca-witchy-whateveryacallits, and throw your 2 or X3 cents in!
First off I thought I might just do a little basic info tossing (Scarlet and anyone else interested you may find some info along these lines in the teen section under FAQ).
Here are some fun if not confusing facts:
*not all wiccans consider themselves witches
*not all witches are wiccan
*not all wiccans practice magick
*not all practioners of magick are either wiccan or witches
*there are even different versions of the Wiccan rede (one version is posted on this site)
*the only thing that ALL here hold in common is the adherance of a harm-none way of life in both theory and practice
*While most wiccans believe in both a goddess and a god there is variety here also with some following more of a goddess path, and some focusing on the worship of many gods and goddesses (some believe that all goddesses are one and all gods are one, just with many faces/personalities/names, while others believe they are distinctly different dieties.)
*most of us, no matter our diversity would adamantly defend another's right to their own differences in belief except for the one edict "to harm none".
*most of us would admit that we each see some things as very clear in so far as whether it is harmful or not, but would also agree that there is a lot that is unclear or "grey" areas where it can not only be a tough call, but where each must answer to their own conscience.
*most of us agree that manipulation of another person is harmful.
*some of us would still do manipulative or controlling magick under certain extreme circumstances. (understanding that whatever we do to others we are doing to ourselves!)
*most of us believe in some form of karmic return or the threefold law (whatever you send out returns to you X 3).
*unlike Christians, wiccans (and most pagans)are not taught to convert others or even to care if others believe the same way we do. The witch's pyramid even directs "to be silent" basically the opposite of the "tell the world" edits of some other religions. Most of us figure the Diety will direct and guide each person to their own spiritual path. Likewise there is no problem with having a spouse or partner who believes differently so long as both people are respectful and accepting of the other's rights and differences.
*some wiccans or witches have strong intuitive gifts and often use the term hereditary witchcraft, while others do not or just plain don't know what may have been in their family tree since it is only in recent decades that people felt free to discuss such things. Bottom line, it's cool if you can look back and see that grandma had the same intuitive senses that you do....but it doesn't make you more or less than you are on your own. Everyone has their own gifts and strengths, the trick is to explore and find out what one's own are. If you feel drawn to something, then explore it.
Well....that covered a bit of ground. Hopefully it also will spark questions and more additions to this discussion. Do feel free to share your own thoughts, opinions, and experiences, one and all.
Super-bright blessings!
Dreemy
