If all you can do is drawing a timeline it might be that you do not have the necessary background to tackle a complicated retirement problem such as this. I would suggest you first try your hand on Problem 8.17 on page 258. There is also a step-by-step solution to a more basic retirement problem on page 253 #4. If you master these you can attempt #3 on p. 274. After you do all of this you should definitely be able to do more than a timeline. There will still some difficulties bec. of the trust and the cruise payments. But if you can get that far I will help you. Tell me what the annual deposits should be when you ignore these two irregular payments. Because, if you remove these two, the problem reduces to a straightforward retirement problem which is very easy to handle provided that you built your background with the in-chapter problems.
