Subject: Tranny Lingering In 1st Gear Too Long

started about a month ago or so. for as long as i've driven the car, when flooring it, it would shift at 5000rpm (normal mode) and 6300 RPM (A/T Mode). now, when in normal mode it shifts at 6000 RPM and when in A/T mode i dont think it shifts at all (once it went too far into redline i let off the gas, so i'm still not sure where it shifts at).

and even during normal driving it does this now. normally during normal start it will shift at 2200-2500 RPM. now, it shifts at 2800 RPM - 3300 RPM. you can tell that the engine wants to shift, but it just lingers at the higher RPM for about 2 seconds longer than it used to.

this has caused a noticable difference in gas mileage. and i'm afraid it will cause engine wear.

the car is a '92 Mitsubishi Diamante with 163,000 miles on it. is my tranny about to go? also, i've heard it could be the computer, since the transmission is all electronic (ECU). i've heard a tranny flush might do the trick, but it is lots of $$$ and i am poor.

thanks for the help.
