Why does this post seem like a troll to me?

The manufacturer figure is not going to be wrong by a thousand pounds... There are two types of pounds - avoirdupois and apothecary. 4428 Pounds (apothecary) equals 3643.61 Pounds (avoirdupois), not too far off the quoted 3362 lbs figure, so my guess is that you're getting the figure in apothecary pounds and manufacturers quote it in avoirdupois pounds.

Compared to other 1997 near-luxury cars (choosing similar engine size or trim level where possible), the 1997 ES is hardly a "pig". It weighs only two pounds more than the Mercedes C280 and the same as the BMW 328ic, but has significantly more horsepower and torque than both. Out of 21 1997 vehicles called 'near-luxury' by Consumer Guide, the 1997 Diamante is 9th lightest and has more horsepower and torque than every lighter vehicle!

Saab 900 S Coupe: 2940 lb / 150 hp / 152 lb-ft
Audi A4 2.8: 2976 lb / 172 hp / 177 lb-ft
Acura 2.2 CL: 3009 lb / 145 hp / 190 lb-ft
Infiniti I30: 3089 lb / 190 hp /205 lb-ft
Mazda Millennia Base: 3235 lb / 170 hp / 165 lb-ft
Volvo 850 GLT: 3250 lb / 190 hp / 199 lb-ft
Lexus ES300: 3296 lb / 200 hp / 195 lb-ft
Mercedes-Benz C280: 3360 lb / 194 hp / 195 lb-ft
*** Diamante ES: 3362 lb / 210 hp / 224 lb-ft ***
BMW 328ic: 3362 lb / 190 hp / 206 lb-ft
Acura 3.2 TL: 3461 lb / 200 hp / 210 lb-ft
Volvo 960: 3461 lb / 181 hp / 199 lb-ft
Chrysler Concorde LX: 3526 lb / 214 hp / 221 lb-ft
Infiniti J30: 3527 lb / 210 hp / 220 lb-ft
Lexus GS300: 3660 lb / 220 hp / 220 lb-ft
Cadillac Catera: 3770 lb / 200 hp / 195 lb-ft
Buick Park Avenue Base: 3788 lb / 205 hp / 230 lb-ft
Lincoln Continental: 3884 lb / 260 hp / 302 lb-ft
Oldsmobile Aurora: 3958 lb / 250 hp / 260 lb-ft
Lincoln Town Car Signature: 3977 lb / 190 hp / 265 lb-ft
Cadillac DeVille Base: 4015 lb / 275 hp / 275 lb-ft

Your figures just don't match information that is freely available elsewhere, and you description of the Diamante as a "pig" suggests you're just trolling to cause trouble. If you don't like the D, why visit this forum?
