Nothing wrong with using synthetics. MUCH more beneficial in the long run than regular oils. However, Castrol Syntec is NOT a synthetic oil. It is a regular oil that has gone through an expensive refining process called hydrocracking. The end result is an oil with similiar properties of a full synthetic, at a lower cost. the downside is that it is still a regular mineral oil and is suceptible to all its shortcomings over full synthetic. Less oxidation protection, more boil off, and viscosity ups and downs, less cold flowing capabilities. Mobil 1 sued Castrol in 1999, trying to prevent them from using the term ' Full synthetic ', arguing that it would mislead customers. Amsoil, Mobil 1 and Redline, have all fought an uphill battle in the minds of vehicle owners for years and didnt want the reputation they have built, get beat up by a cheap knock off. With the Castrol Syntec, you are basically paying $4 for a $2 bottle of oil. An article outlining what happened was published in Lubricant News Oct 99. I summed it up on my website, http://www.synthetics-unlimited.com/castrol.htm
