I just got my car back from the dealer. I have the same problem and I also have a 92 D. The dealer replaced 2 parts, Part no. MB897122- Control unit/module (inside the dash) & MB813582- Control Assembly/Panel. It's working fine now. These parts are very expensive. Cost me $573.00(parts) and $190.00(labor). Try replacing the control unit/module only($155.00)only. Maybe yours was not as bad as mine. My AC only turns on when my blower & Temp switch was set on HIGH. If it works, good for you, Right? Anyway, I hope this will help you.
