Subject: GIPRI- COLOMBIA

We have been doing rock art studies for 30 years and
have registered and documented more than 700 zones in the
high plains area of the Cundinamarca and Boyaca departments
in our country of Colombia. GIPRI (Grupo de investigacion de
arte rupestre) is a member of IFRAO and ICOMOS-CAR. As
as result of these years of work, we have developed specialized
field forms (that you should have been able to receive some time
ago via our internet discussion site), which describe rock art zones of
pictographs and petroglyphs, as well as associated rock artifacts
(cupules, tool sharpening sites, metates, tool workshops); also we
have developed diverse data bases of rock art sites, geographic
information systems and studies of oral tradition and archaeoastronomy.
Researchers and specialized work groups have presented their studies
in international and national rock art congresses and workshops, and have
had their works published in our journal RUPESTRE, Rock Art in Colombia.

GIPRI, being interested in sharing our investigative experiences has
edited and published the RUPESTRE journal since 1995. Rupestre is an
annual publication, number 3 being our latest issue.

We would like you and your investigative group to know about the Rupestre
journal. In order to do so, we ask for your mailing address, then we will
send you a free sample copy of the journal. If you publish your findings
or studies, we would also like to receive your material. We can continue
this interchange in the future if you desire.

We would also like to know a little more of the development of rock art
studies
in your country. Indeed, we would be more than pleased to help you divulge
your findings by publishing one of your articles in our next Rupestre
journal.
