~*~Species!~*~
Species' Name~ Daugaen
Home World~ Deridae
Height at the Shoulder~ Anywhere from 5 to 6 foot.
Species' Colors~ There are four different breeds of Daugaen: A shining green which can range from light green to nearly black; a blue whose scales can be anything from sky blue to midnight; a beautiful gold, anything from tan to deep gold; and what is considered a black, which can mean scale colours from grey to--well--black!
Usually the colour of a Daugaen's blades (in contrast to its scale colour) can tell you something of the creature's personality.
Temperament~ Daugaens have this incredibly ability to remain calm no matter where they are. This means they can be standing in the middle of a battlefield, watching the creatures around them die, and simply continue on fighting--which is why they are considered incredible creatures to have in an army. If you tell a Daugaen to do something, there is a better chance that it will, unless of course it involves the creature dieing. Daugaens value life above almost everything else. This is one thing all three breeds have in common. Other than that, they are totally different: Greens are rough, rugged types who are often found in mountains, while Blues tend to be more curious, cunning and definetely more friendly. Golds are graceful and incredible fighters, and Blacks tend to be more on the social side then the others.
Species' Description~ A small yet bulky creature covered in scales and greatly resembling a dragon, Daugaens have large eyes and powerful-looking beaks. Instead of having ears, they have two long, spiraling horns and between these two horns is a thick webbing. This might be considered a disadvantage, as it renders every member of the species deaf; however, they have learned to survive. Their necks are short but muscular, giving way to a heavily-muscled chest and stomach. Their foreclaws are kept incredibly sharp and could easily cause great damage to the creature they are battling.Their hindlegs, like the rest of them, are incredibly muscled and always ready for action-be it to fight or flee, pounce or run. And if a Daugaen's foreclaws are vicious-looking, their hindpaws are even worse--bigger, sharper and stronger. Their tails are rarely more then their own body length and end in a scythe-like blade. The spine of these creatures is somewhat short, as they themselves are rather short in stature. They have protective pads over their nostrils which they can open or close at any time.
Due to their lack of hearing, the rest of a Daugaen's senses are very keen: their eyesight is eagle-like and their sense of smell is sharper then that of any Earth-creature. It has been said that a Daugaen could close its' eyes and kill its' prey just by using it's sense of smell. Whether or not this is true has never been proven.
Daugaens value family and bloodlines above anything, and are incredibly protective of their relatives. There are usually anywhere from 2-4 eggs in a Daugaen clutch, and when they are born they are born without any senses at all. Daugaens grow at an incredible rate and most will leave the Birthing Den after four to five weeks. They are considered mature at the age of 150.
The normal life expectancy for a Daugaen is anywhere from 2000 to 5000.
