Species' Name~ (Hanuck-Lay) Hanlay
Home World~ Lavana
Height at the Shoulder~ Ah, the only one we know of is 4 ft, but she's not full-grown yet. The average'll probably be 4 1/2, 5 ft.
Species' Colors~ A light, earth-tone base color, with markings of a darker earth-tone fading into it. Eyes can be any color.
Temperment~ Ah, we'll get back to you on that. Not sure.
Species' Description~ A quadruped, Hanlays were Created very recently on Lavana, one of the first species to be made in a long time. Trayuck-Nyay is the female Original. They have heavy-ized Great Dane muzzles, complete with four-inch saberfangs. Their foreheads, like a Shih Tzu's, are pushed in, so that their rather large eyes face straight ahead and can focus binocular-style. They also have floppy Great Dane ears with keen hearing, though their sight is better, and they have good smell. Their fur is medium-length and varies in texture, from coarse to silky smooth. Their torso is canine-ish, though more muscular and flexible, but with the deep chest and narrower waist still. Their limbs are like a cat's, ending in cat-like paws with semi-retractable claws. Their claws, when fully extended, can reach over six inches in length, and look rather like barely-curved, grey, daggers. However, 'retracted' there is only an inch of the tip showing. Their hind claws are more curved and a tad shorter than their foreclaws, better for gripping. They have a normal tail, doglike but flexible as a cat's and a little longer than would look right were they feline. Their speed, endurance, fighting talent, and limits have not been tested, let alone recorded yet.

Okay, since I'm posting this I am posting how the flip Originals happen, and all that Creating business. So it's in semi-essay form and forgive the cruddy writing, it's AM and I'm cranky since I'm out of tea. Grr.

Creators are like gods, not very powerful, but good enough to strike fear into creatures of the Tri-System. (That is, into those Lavanians and Shakalans that believe in them, of course. Terole is too diverse for them to have much effect.) Nearly all beasts on Lavana and Shakala did not evolve, they were Created by Creators. Now, some Creators are malicious, some are benevolent, some are just plain stupid. But in the beginning (scary music) there were Created the Original Nine species. In order: Night Cat, Snow Cat, Sugar Ray, Sky Tiger, Infernio, Fetti, Erauq, Kiyi, Heifia. These are the oldest species and generally honoured, even though the only really successful ones are Night Cats, Sugar Rays, and Heifias. Anyways. When a Creator Creates a species, it happens in a predictable way. There will be one Original, either male or female. Their shadows will be very faint. Then, if the species is approved, the Original's shadow will be stolen (i.e. not there anymore) and broken to make the First Fifty. The First Fifty are, well, the first fifty others of that species, and their genes change constantly, so that the gene pool is huge from the start. These FF have very long lifetimes, often five or six times that of a normal one's, and the Original will never die of old age. They CAN be killed, though, don't get me wrong here. Sometimes, though, a Creator won't like a species that it Created, so it won't break the Original's shadow and that crett will have a 'normal' lifespan. And, by the way, Of the Line means directly descended from the Original of one's species. Very special. And, naturally, Originals are very powerful.

Just one last note- Korats were Created not long after the Original Nine. So Redwood's kinda old. ;) Which might be why she has a temper, neh?
