All the talk about the padded retirement system, something that people don't know is that ALL ELECTED OFFICIALS get 1 year and 1 month for every year that they serve in office. In other words, an elected official who serves one term would have 4 years and 4 months in the retirement system, just because he or she is elected. You may not think that this is a lot, but in the long run, it will add up to a huge amount. Think about it, someone could be in office for 23 years and retire with FULL benefits - we have just given them TWO years that they did not serve.
