Have you played the original Lunar (either the Sega CD one or the recent Playstation Silver Star Story Complete)? The overall driving force behind the game is Alex's love for Luna. Other than that? I don't know. I can't think of any offhand where you have the hero/heroine expressing their heartfelt emotions to their significant other (at least off the top of my head).

My hat's off to you, my friend, on your analysis of FFVIII. There might have been a little love in there, but as you said, the story was mostly about Squall's inability to show/share his emotions. Now FFX on the otherhand...
