Subject: Reports of my death have been greatly exagerated...

Aloha, campers. Tis your friendly, neighborhood Hartman checking in for a quick minute or two.

I've been busy doing the game testing gig of late and working strange hours. Starting tomorrow, my work shift switches from the bizarre 2 pm - 11 pm shift to the even more bizarre 4 pm - 1 am shift. Well, it's not really bizarre since we're working with Japanese developers and are trying to shift to their clock... but I find it weird that I'm practically playing games till the crack of dawn and getting paid for it.

That said, I'll probably be back to the unemployment line in about 2 weeks. There aren't any games in the testing queue at Crave until after Christmas from what I hear, so that leaves me with about a month and a half (at the least) of non-employment after we finish up UFC. Oh the fun of living in the so-called real world. Blah. Being an adult just sucks sometimes...

Anyways, time for some fun rants or something. It's midnight and I'm exhausted, so I'll probably make no sense... but what else is new? ^_^

I hate Haze
I was leaving for work on a lovely weekend afternoon. Haze stops me and asks to borrow my 2 SNK illustration books. I shrug, hand them over, and leave. I come back 6 or so hours later and the bastiche has sewn together most of his Kyo (of "King of Fighters" fame) costume for an anime convention we're planning on going to NEXT YEAR. The scary thing? It's just too perfect looking. His talent with the sewing machine is just too good! Guess I should hand over sewing duties on any of my costumes to him.

Where for out thou, web site?
Several things have prevented me from taking that all important next step and getting the new web site up. One is time and two is money. I should have both settled by this Friday (now that my roommate Kristin is finally paying me back for the computer I built her two months ago...). Unfortunately, I think the Napalm Luck will be retiring. I've got a new plan in the works that will keep my inane personal rantings going while serving up the internal need to produce a semi-quality gaming site of some sorts. Hopefully, it'll all work out.

Hating the internet
I really hope Voodoo Extreme was wrong. I'd link them up, but then you'd all go there and possible hate me and yourself for doing it. Why? Well the idiots decided to post Metal Gear Solid 2 spoiler info on their front page without warning ANYONE. So if you wandered onto their site, you'd find out a piece of info that you didn't want to know until you played the game. Talk about ticking me off! It was almost as bad as that damn video clip AOL had of FF7 showing Cloud releasing Aerith into the pool after Sephiroth impaled her! I can't play the game till they either port it to the Gamecube or I get a system that MGS2 has been released on, so knowing the things I now know kills me. Sigh.

Ph33r my m4d DDR skillz
Now I have hardside pads for my home game.... bwah hah hah. I will conquer the arcade machines soon! bwah hah hah. Uh... yeah. bwah hah hah.

A warning
Do not play Civilization III if you know what's good for you. Once you click, you can't stop. It's always one more turn and then another click. I'll go eat after this turn... click. Maybe I need to go to sleep after this turn? click. I haven't seen the sun in three days... click. Tis an evil game... EVIL!!!!!

Death comes to those who wait...
...so do Gamecubes this weekend come to people who preordered them. Now if only I could convince my roommate to pick up Super Monkey Ball to go along with her system. Hmm.... Guess I'll just have to settle for Luigi's Mansion and Rogue Leader. :-)

Why does Sony hate us?
No price drop on the PS2 in North America this year? Are they nuts?!?! They could have slaughtered this holiday if they just dropped the price on their damnable machine by $50! The greedy bastards. Sigh. Oh, and not like it counts for squat, but I've been hearing rumblings that Sony is actually running scared of the Xbox's superior specs and will hurry up production/release of the PS3 instead of sticking to their traditional 5 year system-life plan. Blah. Video game industry crash number 2, here we come!

A second warning
Avoid Pool of Radiance: Myths of Drannor. It claims to be a roleplaying game. It claims to use the Dungeons and Dragons 3rd edition rules. It claims to install and uninstall successfully on your computer. All of these things are half-truths. For one, the testing team screwed up and the game will delete key system files forcing a computer reinstall of your operating system should you attempt to uninstall the game without their first patch. Second, there's only a glimmer of the 3rd edition rules. Most of the stuff that makes you feel like you're investing time and energy into building a character is completely computer controlled (like assigning skill points, choosing feats, selecting spells). It's less of an RPG than uh... dare I say "Quake" is? Well, it's probably not THAT bad, but still all you do is wander around a dungeon hacking things up with little voice into building your character. You want a good PC RPG? Play the Baldur's Gate series or wait for Neverwinter Nights or Dungeon Seige. Etc.

Hrm. Sleep. That's where I'm a viking!

- Aaron (returns to the land of the dead)
