i kind of went out of odd's original intent of favorite movie characters and used my favorite comic characters, as they either weren't in the movie(gambit) or played a very minute part(iceman). as far as how rouge got her super-human strength and flight, in the movie she had neither, and probably won't considering how her comic book counterpart got hers.

rouge got her strength and flight before she joined the x-men, when she was working for mystique. mystique's gang had a run-in with ms. marvel(a former heroine), and rouge subdued her using her powers, but held on to her too long, resulting in ms. marvel becoming comatose and eventually dying, and rouge absorbing all of her powers and memories.

oh, and as far as jean sucking, well =� to you. her character wasn't all that great in the movie, but she's pretty awesome in the comics.
