Actually, Magus' first name (at least in the American version), is actually Janus. What makes this both interesting and significant is that Janus is the two-faced (literally has two-faces) god of gateways in the the ancient Roman religion.

There are some biblical references as well. Belthazar, Gaspar (aka Caspar), and Melchior were the three wise men who visted the baby Jesus .... aka the Three Magi (plural of Magus). The name Magus is latin, I believe, and can mean serveral things, including a practitioner of magic, which is why it suits Janus well as an alias. Plus it just sounds cool. :-)

I haven't checked it out yet, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if the name Schala comes from either the ancient Greek or Roman legends, religions, etc.

Whew.....time to hit the proverbial hay before I fall alseep on my keyboad.
