This is what i call the'Ready, steady, custard theory' of the end of the world. the thing was that all of last year astrologers and the like were saying "oooh...ecky thump, the worlds gonna end on (insert date)". It gets all the doom sayers all worked up. when that date came and the world quite blatantly had'nt ended they said "the world will end on (insert new date)". people get worked up, then the world doesnt end and the process starts again. this process is not to dissimilar to when you're little and you're playing running races with your friends and they say " Ready...steady...CUSTARD" just to get you going, thinking the race has started. See the connection.
