Subject: Pasteurella virus

I recently lost a 3-year old lop due to what seems to be a very common illness in rabbits called pasteurella. This is a virus that can be as mild as a runny nose to something that affects the rabbit's organs. My bunny (Whimzy) had constant ear infections to the point that the left side of his face became paralyzed. When we took him in for yet another ear flushing, he did not make it through the surgery. Now I am looking for another lop, yet I am afraid that my new bunny could catch it even after I have thoroughly cleaned my house. My vet tells me that one month should be sufficient, but I won't be able to emotionally deal with another sick rabbit. Does anyone have any knowledge or experience with "the waiting time"?
