Bald spots on bunnies can be due to a number of causes ... bunnies can get skin irritations and hair loss, including from fungal problems, much like humans can get: thrush, candidiasis, or ringworm, or dermatitis. But you need to be very careful if you put anything on it to treat, since bunnies lick their fur and can be poisoned by any topical applications. Bunnies can also develop bald spots just from overgrooming, overlicking, and this is called 'berbering'. We had a problem with our previous bunny developing a bald spot after he received an innoculation injection to prevent calicivirus ... has your bunny had any injection shots recently? Could be a reaction to this, or an allergy. Anyway, if it doesn't seem to be bothering him, if he's not constantly licking the area, then it should heal eventually. On the other hand, if it's getting worse, or if he's constantly at it, licking the area, and it's bothering him, you should ask a vet. I found a 'web page which details Australian and New Zealand vets who are rabbit specialists: <a rel=nofollow target=_blank href="http://charm.air.on.ca/raytec/AustralianRabbitVets.htm">http://charm.air.on.ca/raytec/AustralianRabbitVets.htm</a>

It's more worriesome that he's not drinking much water. Does he seem bright and happy and healthy, or does he seem still, unmoving, and uncomfortable? Bunnies' digestive systems are very sensitive, in fact they have the most complex digestive system of any mammal, they digest their food twice, and also cannot vomit, so whatever they swallow has to pass all the way through. So they're susceptible to stomach upsets, including diarrhoea if they have too much moisture, and constipation if they don't have enough moisture and fibre, as well as stomach blockages such as furballs (so pay attention at the times of year when he's moulting, be on the lookout for symptoms of stomach upsets, like sitting as if he's uncomfortable, or you can see it in his droppings). All of these stomach problems can be treated with pineapple juice. What are his droppings like? Do they look moist and healthy? Not very dry, small droppings, in which case he might have constipation or a mildly blocked stomach, in which case you'll need to dose him with pure pineapple juice to rehydrate him and break down the block (pineapple juice from a can is okay, as long as it's unsweetened and 100% pure). Or if his droppings are runny, he might also have a sick stomach, and need more fresh lucerne hay, which should be easily available to him 24 hours a day anyway, and pineapple juice will help with this too. Check out my web site and especially my bunny digestive health page at <a rel=nofollow target=_blank href="http://au.geocities.com/leaswebsite/bunnystomachhealth.html">http://au.geocities.com/leaswebsite/bunnystomachhealth.html</a> for all the details.
