Mum probably won't mind if the buns are moving around on their own, as long as no-one gets hurt.

You could try giving them all a run time in an area that you can join them. Spend time sitting on the floor, letting them get used to you. Keep the touching to gentle pats and if you do pick them up watch for the struggles. Buns can fight extremely hard and can squirm out of your arm before your can react. Another good reason to be sitting on the floor during any contact time.
