West Australia - Myxomatosis alert

There is a Myxomatosis alert
for Perth, Western Australia.
An extremely fast killing virulent strain
of Myxomatosis
is infecting and killing pet rabbits here
(and God help the wild bunnies who contract the disease).

Myxomatosis is spread by biting and sucking insects
such as mosquitoes and fleas.

If your pet rabbit looks sleepy eyed, if his/her eyes
have swollen or have changed colouror become filled
with pus, if his/her nose is swollen
and filled with pus or if your rabbits ears are
swollen and genitals are swollen, seek veterinary advice
urgently.

Keep rabbits indoors to avoid this current scourge.
If you have time, write to Prime Minister John Howard
and ask him to legalise the UK Myxomatosis Shopes Fibroma
vaccine. There is no legitimate reason to deny pet
rabbit access to the Shopes fibroma
vaccine protecting pet rabbits
against Myxomatosis in Europe.

Kind regards,

Marguerite
