Subject: Rabbit Has a Tumor

My (almost 4 yr. old) male dwarf bunny, Smokey has just been diagnosed with a tumor on his backside. I found it a few weeks ago while feeling around. It resembles a raisin. At first I thought it was a pellet that had gotten stuck on his fur, but with a flashlight, I was able to see that it was attached to him. After a vet visit, Smokey is scheduled for surgery to have this removed next week. He is in no apparent distress at all, eats, plays, drinks, as normal. The tumor will be sent out for a biopsy. The vet said that based on the "color" of the tumor, it is not good however, if it is only localized in the one spot that's ok. If it has gone deeper to "make roots" that is not good and we will be referred to an Oncologist. Smokey will be put under by means of gas as opposed to a local anesthesia. I am really nervous for this little guy. Has anyone had this experience before?? I found Smokey 3 yrs. ago along the roadside as someone abandoned him. I've given him nothing but a good loving home. He's a real cutie pie! Thanks.
