Hi David

Firstly it will take time for the hormones to work out of their system, so don't give up yet. Secondly, one is going to be boss and they will need to sort that out. The length of this process depends on how determined both buns are and how dominant the boss is. Some buns seem to need to confirm their position and will defend it vigorously. Others are more confident. When trying to bond two buns the main thing is patience and perserverance.

While they are out together try putting lots of distracting things around.. cardboard boxes they can climb in, toys to throw around (baby toys or just paper towel rolls and small, empty plastic drink bottles)... old towels to dig in and organise. Keep the area interesting and them busy. If they're happy to have you handle them you could also try stroking them while they're next to each other. Do this early in their 'out' time together, before they start fighting. If you notice Meridius becoming aggressive try to distract him straight away, or give him a quick squirt with the water bottle before the fight starts... once they're fighting it's really hard to stop.

Try to keep sweet treats to a minimum. Silly as this sounds I do believe some rabbits are like humans, in that sweets will send them into over-active mode. So no commercial treats as they're particularly bad and overloaded with sugars.. not good for a bun at the best of times.

Keep up with the contact each day. If things get nasty and they won't stop, put them away and repeat the next day. It is possible to have two (or more) male buns together, I have 3 that all live together quite happily. It is well worth the effort to see them snuggling up together.

The House Rabbit Society has a number of very good articles here

Good luck

Melony
