Subject: Rabbit Medications

Hi All,

I was emailing someone overseas who mentioned they
distribute "Prozyme and Lactobacillus and non-flavor simethicone, all American, ". I just wondered if Americans routinely use medications on pet rabbits or how often they tend to use medications. In my opinion a properly constructed diet rabbit mix, pellets, hay, veges and fruit
seem to keep rabbits healthy. I have routinely used a product named Baycox in the past which is an anti coccidiosis medication but that is about it.
What is simethicone used for?

Last time I had a rescued rabbit with diarrhea (which was a long time ago) I seem to remember using pot set yoghurt plus adding the contents of a capsule of human lactobacillus and also giving fluids including some red cordial containing rasberry juice(rasberry in cordial is now very hard to get - I notice they add other fruit juices and artificial rasberry flavour). I saved this one staying up half the night. However in another case (years ago)where coccidiosis was observed by the vet, we were unable to save the rabbit who had come in with the parasitic infection and death was very fast.

Kind regards,

Marguerite
