Hi Marguerite

Simethicone is meant to reduce gas. From what I've read it's used for babies who have colic. I know the US HRS say that's its safe for buns and good to have on hand.

As for over medication, I don't think it's just a US thing. I've read a lot of groups and boards and there are people who will medicate at the drop of a hat. Unless the bun is genuinely sick or has ongoing medical problems (like Susie was talking about), I agree with your more holistic approach... a good diet and make sure they get plenty of run time. I also give my buns lots of herbs such as mint, basil, sage and dandelions (Im actually growing my own dandelions in pots..lol) etc on a daily basis.. all of which are meant to help keep them healthy.

There are two good sources of herbal information here

btw Marguerite.. the last one is located in WA in Leederville
