Subject: Re: Rabbit Hutch Building- design needed
In reply to: Cat 's message, "Rabbit Hutch Building- design needed" on 20:32:29 03/10/02 Sun

>I have built an 8ft x 6ft x 6ft high (walk in) for an elderly neighbour. We have had three rabbits but two (Larry and Lenny) have died recently from what is believed by the vets to be Myxamotosis. The third rabbit is struggling but still content although his eyes and ears and noze is pussy. You must have mosquioto netting all over the wire on the hutch, and also in roof spaces and around the door. We also put wire mesh 6" below the surface so they couldn't burrow out, and PVC blinds on the walls so we can close off from wind and also raise the blinds and let the sun in when suitable. With three rabbits the grass we put inside the eaten quickly so I am not convinced that this is feasible in te long run. I am prefering the concept of hydroponic gardenning inside the hutch (Roger also has a couple of inner rooms created by a small wood and wire hutch placed on the floor of the hutch) This will mean that the little rabbito can chew directly on the celery lettuce and carrot (or other greens. At the moment we are justing sticking bought celery etc in small plastic bins half-filled with water. The idea of rabbits mowing the lawn or at least enjoying a happy time frollicking in the back yard kikking up their heels I share but a healthy young rabbit could be hard to catch. Fortunately Roger is a human friendly rabbit and he wasn't too hard to catch. We are working on a rabbit body collar.
I could send some photos or sketches or you can come and check "Rabbit Heaven" (in the making)out. We would be happy to help with ideas(free of charge of course) I am also open to actually doing the work (at reasonable rates) to build the hutch if you are not too far away. We are at Chatswood.
On re-reading your message are you wanting to keep your existing hutch as it is and just want to extend an exercise yard into the back yard? Permanent or fold-away? I'd say you would want the yard higher than she can stretch - so she can kick up her heels and jump for joy! Or are you seeking a movement to a more expansive and more highly suitable abode for her ladyship?

I would like to allow my rabbit to run around the

>please let me know. Sydney NSW.
