Subject: Mysterious Illness and Death :(

My brother has a black 7 month old rabbit that he recently bought at a county fair. He claims he felt sorry for it because it was kept in a small cage. This was about 2 weeks ago, he has worked and worked to get this rabbit and became very attatched to it.

This morning, to wake him up for his football practice, I let the rabbit out and let it run around his room for a bit. When she jumped on his bed, he woke up. The rabbit seemed healthy and affectionate like it always was. This was at about 11:00-11:30

At about 5pm, he discovered that the rabbit had diarreha, I looked at many sources, and seeing that the droppings were pudding like, not watery. According to several websites, this meant that there was not enough fiber in the diet, and I instructed him to give it some hay to counteract the illness. These websites also said this was not serious, so we did not go to a vetrinerian. I doubt we could have found one at 5pm on a Sunday. The rabbit became very lethargic after this and would not leave its litter pan.

He has been up all night with it, at about 1am, it became very active after he gave her a bath. She was hopping around, but then soon would collapse on the ground. She passed some stool that was formed, although very mushy. The rabbit became very lethargic again.

At 2:45am he came to me and told me that the rabbit was "going." I assumed it was passing stool, but he told me that she was in his arms after she had fallen on her side in her litter pan. This rabbit was most definitely dying, and it passed on shortly after. I would like to know what kind of illness would cause a healthy rabbit to get diarreha and die in only 12 hours. She was a house rabbit that ate pellets with 18% fiber, alfalfa hay, and carrots as a treat.
