Subject: I need help too!!! Naughty spayed female...
In reply to: Jessa 's message, "My house is one big litterbox!!!" on 11:25:54 05/02/02 Thu

HELP! We've got a similar problem. Let me first say, our first rabbit (a male) was so clean, and neutering him made him absolutely wonderful. Unfortunately, he got ill and died about 9 months ago.

We got a little female in May. She just got old enough, so we spayed her this past Monday (7/22), as I understand both males and females will mark their territory. She loves to roam the house and will use her litterbox (we put pine shavings in it), but what is so frustrating is she gets up on my daughter's bed and does her business all over the bed--what a mess! Also, she'll get up on the couch and the cat's window bed and do the same thing; in fact, it seems if she gets on a surface that's fabric (like a blanket, etc.), she uses it as a litter box. Then she gets locked in her cage, and sometimes seems to be even naughtier when let out again. She's very sweet and loves to be around people and to be held, but how on earth can I break this terrible habit?? I'm getting tired of cleaning things up. What we did to force her to use the litterbox in her cage (mesh bottom, but quite large cage) was to line the bottom with cardboard. She urinated just one time on the cardboard, then got the picture about using the litterbox. However, it's this out-of-the-cage behavior that's driving me crazy. If anyone can help us and Jessa out, that would be fabulous!
