I'm glad to hear the pageants are inconsistant it offers all children the opportunity to win. My daughter has been to two Sunburst and placed 2nd once and won overall beauty in the other. Personally I'm tired of walking in pageants and being able to pick the winner before they go on stage, simply judging them by the dress they wear. I wish more pageants offered judging that favored the "newbies" as your calling them. I'm assuming by newbie your refering to a simple dress and non rehersed answers. Personally I say How refreshing. Children actually being children!!!!

There are pageant systems out there that atually judge more than a child's dress, you just have to look for them. I agree that heavy make-up and dresses that cost a small fortune shouldn't automatically make a winner, but parents investing that much into thier child's wardrobe and accessories expect to win, and if they don't they take their business elsewhere.

I WOULD JUST LIKE TO ADD THAT I JUST ENTERED MY 8 YR OLD DAUGHTER FOR THE FIRST TIME IN A PAGEANT AND IT WAS SUNBURST. I AM GLAD I DID I THOUGHT WE WOULDN'T PLACE BEING THAT SHE IS A NEWBIE AND 8 YRS BUT TO MY SUPRISE SHE PLACED 2ND RUNNER WITH A CHANCE TO DO STATE. THIS WAS A GOOD OPERTUNITY FOR HER AND SHE HAS DECIDED SHE WANTS TO TRY MORE PAGEANTS WHICH I FEEL WILL HELP HER TO GO AFTER WHAT SHE WANTS IN LIFE WHEN SHE GETS OLDER. I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO SAY I DID DO ALOT OF CHECKING ON PAGEANT BEFORE I ENTEED MY DAUGHTER AND I FOUND THAT SUNBURST DID SEEM TO BE A MORE RESENABLE ON TO ENTER THANK YOU

I entered my daughter in Sunburst pageants. I think highly of them because they seem to offer more when it comes to savings bonds and ect. I entered my daughter in the preliminary, she won 1st got paid entry fee to go to the state finals, she won again and got paid entry fee again to go to the nationals which it was too far away but we went anyway, she came in 3rd runner up. The state finals is so different than the nationals. Nationals has like 100 kids and state finals are smaller and more opotionals available. My daughter enjoys doing them and wants to do it again this year so it can be very fun! I wish they would have nationals in our state. It's too much when it's out of your states, hotel, flight tickets, driving, ect... So I'm entering my daughter for the preliminary again so she can get in the state final without paying the entry fee and no nationals this year.

My 8 month old daughter just won second runner up in our Sunburst prelim pageant at our local mall with our $200 entry fee to state paid for. I assumed that was the only expense. I was wrong. When I got home and read the booklet, I found out that you have to sell ads for the program book, which are $150 a page, and if someone sells 8 ad pages, they automatically win a crown, trophy, and all optional events paid. Not only that, but you also have to pay a $80 fee for the parade of beauties, which is just a picture of all the contestants in the program book. I was very upset to find out all the extra expense that is required in order to simply attend the pageant. not to mention the dress, hotel, transportation, and so on. I guess I am new to the whole pageant arena, but It seems I was led into a money making scam if you ask me. I might just buy my daughter a crown, and save a ton of money!

I feel they herd children through like cattle{time is money}They don't truly have time to look at each child to determine anything and they seem to base some of it on how much money you pay for the extras. Not completely fair!!!!!!!

i agree they do herd them in like cattle. I did sunburst twice. the first year she one a side award at state and the second year nothing. We competed in a large number of optional events. Honestly she did not do well because she did not have a coach. all the girls that won the highest award that year were coached! and that was the first lost we had.

A lady was in the dressing room with her 2 children and she was selling her old pageant clothes. Her children were not competing so she was unaware of the "no selling stuff" rule. The director apparently was notified and walked into the dressing room and started yelling at the lady (in front of everyone) that its rude and she was calling security on her. She kept asking the lady who "her contestant" was. The lady selling stuff kept trying to tell her she didnt have a contestant and she was unaware of any rules. The director didnt want to hear it she threatened security again and told her to pack up and leave. Not 10 minutes later one of the staff members came in the room and started yelling that anyone not with Sunburst would be escorted off the premesis by security. It was handled very poorly and unproffesionaly!

Yes , I personally don't like the glares when I walk into a pageant dressing room and they see that we don't have a 3000 dollar dress. Or the laughing behind my back when my daughter goes on stage and is just herself, with no rehersed smiles or posses. We love traveling and getting all dressed up, but we can not afford the dresses and outfits, or coaches, or even retouched pictures. I have done hours of research trying to make her outfits myself. But I always know who is going to win before the competition even begins , It is the girl who spent the most money. And thats really sad!!!!!!
