Hi y'all just to let you know that on Friday (18th January) the Film Society will be showing a film called Chronicle of a Summer, which is kind of an ethnographic film classic. It was done by two guys, one a sociologist and one and anthropologist, and one of the issues addressed in the film is the question of the effectiveness and validity of film as a research tool as well as the efficacy of interviews in the research process. Sociological content aside it's also an interesting film, so if you happen to be in school at the time just come by LT10 at 6 p.m. There are a bunch of newsletter things in the Honours room (on the table below the whiteboard) with a more detailed write-up of what the show's about.
