if memory serves me right, not voting is not a penal offense, but there are certain consequences.
if you don't vote, your name is deleted from the electoral roll. in the future, should you feel like voting, you're supposed to go to the electoral dept in selegie road, pay a fine of $50 or thereabouts to get reinstated in the electoral rolls.
really, you should consider spoiling your vote if there isn't anyone worth voting. it has the same effect as in your vote is not counted, and in addition, you're *not* deleted from the electoral roll.
of course, if the buggers bring in the electronic voting system, i'm going to be real pissed if there isn't an option to cast a blank vote or a spoilt vote. in which case, i'll form a party and run for office. or vote for darren.

>Unless they decide to implement something stupid like
>"All null votes shall go to the PAP." If that happens,
>I'm going to run for office just so I can vote myself,
>ha ha ha! I shall vule ze vurld!!
