Subject: Burt family

Has anybody any searcheable sources for history of the Burt family? As I understand it the 'Burts'were vikings who settled in scotland in the 8th and 9th centuries .Subsequently the family divided with a part moving south to Normandy returning to England with William the conqueror. My own family tree originates in Sussex and appears to bear this out as far as the 16th century anyhow.Has anybody got a source I can check with to verify this or not?It does seem strange to have 2 branches as far apart as Fife and Sussex.
