If you are an ancestry.com member you may access the 1841 Scotland census without having to pay for every search and every viewed image. If your ancestors happen to be from Stirling, much of the 1881 census is available at Tom Patterson's very fine web site. Don't know about other non-pay options. I, too, am curious
