Subject: Todd family in Co. Donegal, Ireland

Looking for info about the family of John Todd who were living in Buncrana, Co. Donegal in the 1850's. John's wife's name is unknown, but she had a sister named Sally. Three of John's children left Ireland and went to New York for a short while, moved to Philadalphia and then settled in Humboldt Co., Iowa. There was at least one other child, a son James. Lydia Todd was the first to leave Ireland around 1849, followed by her sister Sarah and brother George. Sarah married James Dean, also from Co. Donegal, in Philadelphia in the early 1850's. They had one son James Todd Dean. Sarah died in Philadelphia when James Todd was about one year old. After they moved to Iowa, Lydia married James Dean but George never married.

An interesting side note is that around 1913, James Todd Dean who was in his early 60's, left Iowa and he and his wife Eleanor and sons Edwin and Myron went to Columbus, New Mexico to homestead land and James became a part of US histry. He and Edwin operated a grocery store in Columbus but James Todd was killed in 1916 while defending his store when Pancho Villa raided that small border town south of Deming, NM.

There was another Todd family also living in Buncrana when our family lived there, but we cannot yet find any connection. They once lived in Buncrana Castle and James Todd of this family, who later changed his name to Todd-Thorton, was a prominent citizen of that area.
