This post details the areas of expertise of most major nations in the world. (Don't be picky with me about any inaccuracies here, I'm just trying to explain the way things stand in Minural)

Ilo is the most culturally advanced nation in the world because of its educated and informed citizens, political status as a republic, and active stance in world affairs.

The Crac'anian Empire is the most generally advanced nation in the world, because of its vast agricultural output, large population (and army), large fortified cities, and advanced magical school.

The Life Republic is the most agriculturally advanced nation in the world, because of its fertile farmland, irrigation techniques, and thousands of years of farming by its residents.

The Dwarven Kingdom of Hilstrach is the most militarily advanced nation in the world, because of its martial tradition, well-trained military engineers and architects, and colleges of war.

The Coranis Empire is the largest nation in the world, because of its many-children tradition, large amount of land, and growth of rice.

The city-state of Ni'Lane is the most economically advanced nation in the world, because of its rich citizens, location immediately between Hilstrach and Crac'an, and crude stock-market-like system.
