Subject: The Next Big Thing

Not getting enough Vitamin C? The Fuji Spinning Company of Japan has developed a fiber containing a chemical called pro-vitamin, which turns into Vitamin C on contact with human skin. T-shirts made from the fiber--called V-up--will have the equivalent vitamin content of two lemons and remain effective after 30 washes. The company, whose product is aimed at women who are interested in skin care, hopes to start selling the T-shirts in early 2002.

There are also plans for vitamin-enhanced lace underwear.

The company is trying to develop other vitamins also. It also produces fibers with anti-odor and anti-bacterial properties derived from catechin, a substance extracted from the shells of crabs and shrimp.

Of course, common sense dictates that the best way to get the required daily dose of vitamins is to eat a varied and balanced diet containing lots of fruit and vegetables. But when that is not possible, well, there is always underwear!
