Recently I needed a loan. A rather large, 5-figure loan. Being the procrastinator that I am I waited until the day before I absolutely needed to have it and then I approached my friend Darrel, the one person in the world who I thought that A) could afford it and B) Might actually lend it to me.

He didn't immediately say he would give it to me. He asked a couple of questions about why I needed it and the conversation drifted off. At some point I made the comment that "You know, that whole thing about Money doesn't buy happiness? That's BS. I'm broke and the stress of being broke is making me miserable."

He replied, "Well, money can't buy all happiness. But because of this money it makes me happy to know that I can help a friend in need." And he wrote me a check and didn't mention a thing about repayment terms.

That's one of the nicest things anyone has ever done for me.
