I agree. If we define "falling in love" as a feeling that diminishes or disappears (as opposed to caring about someone, since I have fallen out of love but never stopped caring) then, in my personal experience, it is obvious when it begins but hard to grasp when it actually ends. The times that I have fallen in love there never was any doubt as to the moment I looked at someone either for the first time or looked at them in a new way for the first time that I was in love.

As far as the falling out of love goes, it was more of an insidious, seeping, slow-progressing thing where slowly the initial feelings began to slip away. Unfortunately it seems rare that both people fall out of love at the same rate which leads to those all too uncomfortable "Hey, been great -- can I have my key back?" episodes.
