It's been years since I went to a rave but back in my rave heydays (93-97) I was a regular fixture on the LA scene. The common theme in raves is generally "shiny happy sexual people". Generally half the crowd (at least) is on ecstasy which (umm.. i have heard) makes you feel very sexual and in love with everything (you may be just as inclined to sensually french kiss a flower as you would to grind against the writhing, shiny person dancing next to you.)

Rave music is "house music", usually comprised of a DJ and a synthesizer and 12 marshall bass stacks each 30 feet high. Bottled water, oranges and Altoids are always provided by good rave promoters.

Men wear anything Adidas and women wear... well, anything Adidas... plus a LOT of sparkly make up. (Pigtails are also a big plus.)

Each rave has a theme. One that comes to mind offhand is "Archie and Jughead" where a continuous loop of Archie cartoons were projected onto a giant screen (actually a white balloon about 50 feet in diameter). Because the balloon screen was not flat it created a distorted-looking cartoon that added to the whole surreal feeling of the rave. Plenty of dry ice is also a rave prerequisite.

Also the regular social mores of courtship cease to exist at a rave. Basically eye contact means "let's have sex, now".

Soo.. this long winded diatribe is basically intended to say... yes, harp there is a porno cause.
