[1/2B] [1/2B] [1/2A]
[1/2B] [1/2B] [1/2A] <-- the 2 piles you get when you cut them in half (making sure to separate the "top" halves from the "bottom" halves)

[1/2B] [1/2B] [1/2A] [1/2A]
[1/2B] [1/2B] [1/2A] [1/2A] <--- cut a new [A] in half and add one half to each pile

[1/2B] [1/2B] [1/2A] [1/2A] = [A][B]
[1/2B] [1/2B] [1/2A] [1/2A] = [A][B]

By doing this you ensure that you only end up with one A and one B per pile.
