Trying to locate an old friend I served with in the US Navy from 1983-1986. We were stationed in Mayport Florida and served on the U.S.S. Oliver Hazard Perry (FFG-7). His name is Bruce Edwin Rodgers (TM3 Rodgers, torpedo mate). He was born in Port Authur, Texas around 1963 or 1964 and I believe in the month of May. He had several siblings, one brother of which was killed in an automobile accident in the Houston area around the time I served with him. I would like any help you could of locating him. I've tried several avenues to no avail.

Thanks in advance,

Gregg Alford

I am a disabled vet, my name is Terry Musgrove. my wife is a nurse who was hurt on the job in 11/3/06, and has been unble to return to work. We are in need of an attorney and do not have the funds. She has found an attorney who will take the case but we must have 2000 dollars to start. She was wronglyfully terminated, in order to not pay the workmans comp. all her medical records substanciate her inability to return to work. They have refused to pay her medical also. They are privately insured and are not subscribers to the state workmans comp, that was why the attorney who has decided to take the case has requested the $2000 dollars. Now in agreement with my wife we will pay these funds back to anyone who can help us out and will be more than happy to pay with interest. Her lawyer is very assured that he will win this case, they have managed to put us in a terrible financial situation. With regards to records to substinciate we will show, I am sincere in this situation. we are at wits end and that is why I am posting this ad. I got a free computer through the VA about 5 years ago but i do not remember how it was done. If you contact your local veterans administration center they should be able to tell you if this program is still available. I am 100% service-connected disabled like your friend which qualified me at that time.

I am trying to re-unite with members of my outfit we were called the Bushmasters. I was there for the entire seige of Khe Sanh and Hill881 South. I had a buddy named Ratcliffe he was killed and I want very much to reach out to his family to tell them how he died and how bravely. He wa killed instantly in an ambush and never knew what hit him . But I do and I dream of him every night. One of the men who did survive was John Geitz . Names are hard because withthe names comes the pain. I was there 67-68 I was a Cpl in NAM and left the Corp as a Sgt. I have photos but do not know yet how toscanand send.

Hello Brother,

I was transferred to the 190th AHC from the 187th AHC during September '67. I was a crew chief (D.B. Meckling was my gunner) until Tet '68. Got hit, went to the hospital for a few weeks and came back. Later DEROSed during March '68.

Maybe I can help you.

Hey Brother,

I transferred to the 190th AHC from the 187th AHC during September, 1967 and served as a crew chief of a gun ship with D.B. Meckling (gunner) until Tet, '68. Got hit and went to hospital at Long Binh and later to Cam Rahn Bay for three weeks. Returned to 190th for a few weeks until I DEROSed in March.

Maybe I can help you out.

>Hi Harry. WebSignore, Remember me? I remember you. It was long ago at SVAS.... and then later on your MyFamily, La Famiglia website. What happened there? First it was free....and selling hats, pins and even pieces of the FLR-9. Then it was selling memberships, first "lifetime" and later yearly, and still there were the hats, pins and how many pieces of the FLR-9 did you still have anyway? Did you ship them over in a boxcar? Oh Harry.

Subject: VA Compensation Denial

Author:
Robert D. Segovia
[Edit]

Date Posted: 19:31:25 05/24/05 Tue

Hello Fellow Vets,
My name is Robert D. Segovia. I served at Tan Son Nhut,AFB during Nov 1968 through Feb 1969. My branch of service was the U. S. Air Force. My specialty was A.G.E. (Aerospace Ground Equipment ) Repairman.
I have been diagnosis by the VA with Post Tramic Stress Disorder due to my war experience in Nam and am receiving treatment with medications for the last two or more years. I have been trying to collect compensation for approximately 1 year. The DAV has been taking care of my claim . Today, I received a Denial notice from the VA for this claim due to insuffient data. The Denial also acknowledges that I do have PTSD. This Denial is based on not having "dates, places or perhaps names" and insuffient data where I experienced rocket fire and mortar fire and other experiences while at Tan Son Nhut, AFB. This and other experiences of viewing dead soldiers from a rocket attack has added to my trama and have been submitted in my claim of PTSD. In my claim I stated that I helped unload alot of green bags filled with corpses and stacked them in air conditioned connexes. This connexes were primarily used for storing recon film. The connex was emptied of films and utilized for corpses storage. I remember that the Viet Cong were threating at the end of the runway to C- 130 flights out of Tan Son Nhut and therefore it was decided that it was too risky to fly-out the dead and better to store them at least temporarily.
I remember during one mortar attack, one night while asleep, that knock me off my top bunk and sustained a fractured right wrist. Surely my medical records can attest to that, as far as mortar attacks. There were many "Take Cover" calls for us to go to the bunkers. Hey , it was every night that we had mortar attacks during that time of Tet. I remember seeing the fire works at night occuring outside of the base, in Saigon. I could see it from the second floor of my barracks where I bunked. The gunships were firing with tracers and I could see this all night happening in Saigon.
At another time, I remember a 55 millimeter rocket hitting the eaves of a barracks and burying itself about 3 ft into the ground , right outside the corner of the barrack, which was surrounded with sandbags 3- 4 ft up. That barrack was not but two or three barracks away from ours. I rushed to that barracks in my "skives" that night to help the wounded. I only found dead soldiers laying in their bunks and a huge pool of blood that felt sticky to my bare feet. The only guy I remember walking and wandering in pitch darkness was the soldier that had escape from the rocket explosion. His bunk was the one at the bottom at the corner and only 4- 5 feet away from the rocket landing. The sandbags saved him ! His ear drums were busted though and was totally deaf and in shock! This occurred around the early hours of the morning, around 2 AM. The date I don't remember.
Does anyone have any recollection of any of these events by any chance?
I need help to appeal to the VA denial notice. Any details that we can share and help me recall , will certainly be appreciated.
Where do I start?...to collect information for what the VA requires. I know that I can submit and request my records from archives to vertify my fractured right wrist. Also will help to place a date on it as well prove the mortar attacks.
Hope to hear from anyone soon.
Thanks in advance to everyone for the help.
I live in Houston, Texas

Viet Nam Veteran, Bob

My husband is a disabled vietnam vet. He was onboard the USS Hancock in The Gulf of Tolkin between 1971-1973.
My husband swears that you could taste JP5 jet fuel in the water and often in the food they ate. He will be 50 years old in july of 05. He has major nerve damge, severe joint and muscle issues as well as dimentia and memory problems. We have been told that he needs to find anyone who can verify his claims of contamination from jet fuel toxins. If there are any other navy vets out there who are experiencing the same problems or remember the problems of jet fuel taste in water or food, I would greatly appreciate the info. Thank you in advance.
My husband is 100% disabled by the V.A. and by tthe Social Security Administration, but he gets no V.A. pension because he can not at this point prove service connection.

Clayton, please list the dates and areas in which you subjected to rocket attacks, friends killed, etc.

I know of at least one Navy Sea-Bee ... C B (Construction Battalion) who was awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroic actions under fire in Vietnam.

Many people do not realize that the Navy Seals were an off shoot of the UDT (Underwater Demolition Teams) and that the majority of the initial UDT members were Sea-Bees.

Clayton, thanks for your service to Corps and Country.

I have an friend, Joe Blair, that is a Vietnam Vet that is living in an old motorhome and working for different farmers in the area. He is in poor health and seems to be suffering from the effects of agent orange exposure, as well as PTSD.

He made an attempt a number of years ago to get some benifits but was perplexed by the paperwork and problems he faced at the Nashville, TN VA clinic. He has told me in no uncertain terms that he will not go back there. I have made arrangements to drive him up to Evensville, IN to a clinic I heard about up there from one of my customers, but I am clueless on what paperwork we need to take with us or what steps we need to take.

I found out from one of Joes children that he is was decorated at least once, and lost most of his teeth to an incident leaving a hot LZ and climbing aboard a helicopter, and the army finished pulling what teeth he had left. He also was honorably discharged, which I know is one of the requirements to recieve VA benifits.

Please e-mail me with any information and web sites that could help us get Joe his benifits.

Thank you in advance for you assistance.

Hi, My dad served in Vietnam. Growing up details of the war or memories were never really mentioned and I never really asked. My dad is a recovering alcoholic who quit drinking when I was very young (1980-ish). My mom died in '96 and ever since then my dad's been in a very deep depression. He started gambling compulsivly and lost everything except his car and a few belongings and is now in debt to the IRS for over $100,000 (pretty bad for a guy on a blue collar pention!) Ever since my mom died and this depression hit he talks about the war more. My dad is now going to GA (gamblers annonomous)and trying to get his life on track and I would like to plan a trip for he and I to go to Vietnam. I think it would be good for him. However, I'm struggling with poverty myself and can't afford the airfare that I've priced. Does anyone out there know of any groups that will financially help vets travel back to Vietnam?

Thanks,

Rebecca

Since 1995 I was receiving a home-bound disability pension from VA due to PTSS from service 1969-71. It was an iffy for VA and thus they made it non service connected and wrote me off. I lost the pension due to a recent marriage. I need advice about some type of employment I can do from home. It is really getting me down not being able to help my wife with bills. I have always wanted to work and release the pension but no one knows the walls that are put up for someone in my situation. With what little money we have I am afraid of being ripped off by these companys that advertise work from home. Does anyone have any suggestions.

Semper Fi all -- I am a former Sergeant - USMC - landed at Dong Ha 27May1969. I was with 5th 175 & 8" Guns at Dong Ha - Camp Carroll - Rockpile - Vandergrift and my last 6 months were at 11th Marines - Danang. I was Motor T. I just fe-file a claim for PTSD-Hearing Loss- BiPolar Disorder and I need some help figuring out and getting through the VA's red tape. I am trying to fill out the form about stressors and am having trouble with dates - exact locations - time - names etc. I would have written all this down but always thought "it don't mean nothin" and it was "just a rumor" - I appreciate your help -- Semper Fi...... My name is Gene Lowe - former Sgt -USMC - and was stationed at 11th Marines - Motor T - DaNang about that time - 20 July '70 - I can not remember dates but we were constantly harrassed by rockets and were always being sniped. I will go through my papers and will try to find some documentation. Have you written to Marine Corps HQ? I just re-filed papers for PTSD - hearing loss - Bipolar claim and could use some help with recalling dates and places and people. I was with 5th 175 MM & 8" Guns at Dong Ha -Camp Carroll - Rockpile - Vandergrift and last 6 months at Danang. I appreciate any help or advice where I can find information. Semper Fi....... All:

I am a post-Viet Nam vet who was a Cold War intelligence analyst for two life-threatening years. I have several diagnoses of chronic and severe PTSD, a diagnostic nexus that it is service-connected, a letter of support from someone I was stationed with, a GAF score of 35 from the C&P exam, and two VA hospitalizations for PTSD. (I worked at a base under threat from Basque terrorists, with the occasional riot, threat from US marines etc. thrown in for variety.)

Here's my question----how long does it take for the C&P folks to make a decision? I filed in July of 2000, my C&P exams were in October.

Does the hospitalization make any difference to my claim? Does it improve or hurt it?

Please respond to my email address.

Thank you,

Gordon Cooper

Subject: NAM VET IN DISTRESS
Message:

I am the bother in law of David Aston was a Nam medivac helo pilot. Dave was shot down and wonded near the end of his first tour. After rehab he volunteered for a second tour because he was single and felt he had less to loose than his married pilot buddies.

He was forced retired from the Army due to heart problems in 1998 and ever since has had emotional problems that have now escalated in his divorce and now alcoholism. He was in AA and doing ok. About a couple of months after his Dad died of cancer in March 2001, he has gone back to drinking, going from bar to bar in Orange County, Ca. talking about his Nam experiance. His mother and the rest of his family are worried about his safety and health with his heart and respitory problems. He will not listen to any of us to seek help because he does not see he has a problem.

If a fellow veteran who could relate to his pain and contact Dave and listen to his story he may be willing to seek help or listen to advise becuase he could relate to a fellow vet. Out of love and concern his mother and sister have tried helping but we cannot relate to what is causing him so much pain. We contacted the VA hospital and they can only help if he comes in on his own accord.
PLEASE HELP!
If you would like to help, please EMAIL or call me (George) or his Sister (Evie) collect in Hawaii at (808) 262-5922 and we will try to locate David so you could talk to him. If you have a Southern California vet organization I could call please send that infomation. We need to help Dave quick.

Thanks you and Aloha

Hello. I recently sent you a letter about acquiring a computer. I am newly enrolled in college (chapter 31 ) and the VA will not provide me with one because it is only strongly recommended not required but I ride a bicycle 5 miles to school (my truck is ill) and it makes it very hard to get back out to the college at night to practice my computer lessons especially with my back hurting while riding the bike. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Also I believe I read in your short bio that you were at Phu Loi, I was at Dian and Lai Khe in 5/66 thru 5/67 with the infantry platoon attached to the 1st M.P. company Big Red One. I'm 30% for PTSD and 10% for my back I'm also Diabetic II and I am under reevaluation at the present time. Thank you in advance Mike Taylor (theothermikey@yahoo.com)

Hi!

I am a therapist in Federal Way,WA (Halfway between Seattle and Tacoma). I currently have a client who is a Viet Nam vet who wants to work on PTSD issues. I am trying to find a support group as an adjunct to the treatment we will be doing and am having a difficult time. Do you have resource list of therapy and/or support groups in my area? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
