Subject: estimated number of African American psychiatrists in the US..

I want to find out whether or not this statement I recently heard was true. Statement: "In this country (USA)of an estimated thirty million African Americans there are only around eight hundred African American psychiatrists."

It was made in reference to how when you look at the percentage African Americans make up of the country's population, we represent a small percentage of the mental health providers, and that discrepancy causes us not to embrace information about mental health issues.

Does this sound true?
