Subject: Entrance

-The femme stood in the doorway, keen eyes watching the Candidates that had already arrived. She had hoped that she would be the first to arrive, it might have given her a better chance. The girl shrugged to no one; oh well, she was here, that's all that mattered. She grinned and started onto the Sands, white robe billowing about in the dusty wind. She watched the other Candidates, blue-green hues shining brightly through the wisps of chestnut brown hair that seemed to never want to leave her alone. Brushing it out of her eyes, she walked past the Candidates to the Queen; she would converse with the others at a later time. She came as close as she dared to go to the Queen, moving between the eggs. She looked up at the Gold, then gave a short bow, implying that she would not harm the eggs, but she did come to Impress one. Her courtesies done, she moved amongst the eggs for a short while, slender fingers going over a few, eyes percieving almost as good as a harper, though she had been holdless for the part of her life that she had remembered. Feeling tired from the walk that she had endured to get there she sat in a small shady area, consent to rest for awhile befor introducing herself to anyone. As she slept she dreamed

~The mingling cries of human and animal screams confused the little girl, green eyes lit up in the glow of the advancing fire, scared and perplexed, but transfixed. The fire neared her and a beam from the high vaulted ceiling fell into it, sending burning pieces flying around the 9 Turn old girl. One seared her back as another hit her arm, catching the fabric of her clothes on fire and releasing her from her entrancement and whipping the child back into her harsh reality: The hold was burining down. She did not cry out, but beat tore off burning fabric and ran outside. By morning the burn wound was throbbing in pain, but the girl said nothing as they treated it. Not a tear escaped her, the blank face was disconcerting to most everyone except her father and a few others. The wound healed, but the girl remained silent until she and her father set off with a caravan. the stoic nature would remain until the age of eleven, when smething would happen to her train.~

*Rockslide. Another disaster in the youth's life that would fade from memory. The brown haired girl urged the white mare faster as trees snapped behind her, caught with the mud and boulders. Fear gripped both rider and steed and their pace quicken ever still. Once she thought it was clear, the horse was slowed and allowed to rest, walking along the dirt path. The femme was proud of herself, but the victory was short lived, for with a sharp crack a small tree, bulky enough to knock the youth unconcious, fell on the hindquarters of the horse. THe girl was thrown into the now quiet pile of rubble behind them, only to be foun hours later...with no memory of what happened.*

-Keiko awoke with a start. That same dream again, she thought. The dream was a reoccurance, though she didn't know what on Pern it may have meant. It was unfamiliar to her, but it was as if she knew the strangely silent girl, but it couldn't have been anyone that could have lived through what she had seen in the dream. She couldn't even remember anything past the age of 11 anyway. She had awoken in a wagon with some woman who claimed to be her mother. The femme was told that she had fallen off her horse, a blood bay named Areshi, and sustained a very severe wound to the head. This was all she had been told, and she grew accustomed to not knowing her past, becoming more spirited and lively after her injury. Her name was Keiko, and she was now 16, standing at the Sands in Xanadu. There was little from her past that would make much of a difference to that piece of information, so it did not bother her. Setting the dream aside, she advanced toward the others, deciding to be scial and talk to people; maybe it would pass the time and keep her anxuety and nervousness to a containable level...-
