You can rem out declarations at the start of the code but you can't rem out the actual commands that turn on and off the LED. Those commands should be replaced with NOPs to keep the timing the same. Each subroutine must have a certain number of instructions to match the video signal. If you rem one out without replacing it with a NOP, then the timing of the code will be off.
