I didn't actually enable it
I built a SX 3 chip decoder and fitted it into the box bypassing the existing decoder. I used the power supply, antenna power injector, tuner and RF modulator.
The design uses an SX18 for the decoder and a P16F84 to drive the tuner and interface with the IR remote control.
I can't guarantee that it would work with a type 4 as I've never had my hands on one of these.
